What are the pros and cons of music with explicit lyrics versus music with clean or edited lyrics?

often times, the edited version actually makes more sense than the explicit ones. For The First Time by The Script is a good example of that. Explicit allows you to hear the song as it originally was though, as the artists made it. How it should be heard. I personally prefer edited ones, but not to the point that the new song is unrecognizable to the original one.
