What the hell is so funny about the trollface?

I have seen this thing everywhere and it's only growing in popularity. Im usually easy to get to laugh but when I see them I don't even get the slightest chuckle. I don't get what makes them so funny. The seem rather distasteful and unpleasant to look at as well as being completely stupid. So why do they keep showing up everywhere? Am I missing something?
